Lions Project for Canine Companions for Independence (LPCCI)

Lions Club participation dates back to Canine Companions’ very beginnings in the mid-1970s. Lions and Lionesses in Northern California were the first volunteers recruited by Canine Companions to serve as puppy raisers and breeder caretakers. Interest grew and the Lions Project was born in 1983 to coordinate and support efforts of Lions, Lioness and Leo Clubs across the United States through a Club Membership and volunteer program. Through the support and donations from clubs across 26 states in the nation, LPCCI has donated over $4 million to Canine Companions.

LPCCI provides a wide range of awards that honor individuals and club members while making donations. For more information on becoming involved or awards, please contact:

General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)

Canine Companions for Independence is proud of its long association with the General Federation for Women’s Clubs, which has generously supported Canine Companions for decades through generous donations of time and funds. As an affiliate organization, Canine Companions partners with the GFWC to raise awareness of and support for our mission.

The GFWC includes more than 6,500 clubs in the United States and more than 20 countries. Its members are dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service, advocacy and more. Canine Companions participates in club, district, state and national meetings and conventions by providing printed materials and people to tell the Canine Companions story and showcase what our assistance dogs can do. Top clubs and state federations are recognized at the annual GFWC international convention.
