Wounded Veterans Initiative:

Canine Companions for Independence has provided many assistance dogs to US war veterans across the country. With the increase in wounded veterans who could benefit from an assistance dog, we knew we could help and in 2008 we launched our Wounded Veterans Initiative.

For a veteran making a new start putting their life back together from an injury, an assistance dog can provide the help they need to regain independence.

Pictured is Graduate Lance Weir with Service Dog Auggie. Lance credits his first Canine Companions Service Dog with changing his life.

"She gave me responsibility, independence and the confidence to go out there and try things I didn't think I could do," he explains. Now, Lance says, "I'm happy to be an example of how much independence a Service Dog can bring to someone with a disability. Canine Companions is a wonderful organization, and I'm proud to be a part of it."
