PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB: This position works closely with the Development Director and Executive Director in the identification, solicitation and development of community, local and regional fundraising sources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Grants:
- Work with Development Director to develop strategies to meet Foundation goals outlined in annual budget.
- Research, identify and qualify local and regional grant sources.
- Prepare and submit grants to coincide with funding source guidelines
- Track grants and prepare and submit grant reports
- Manage grant calendar that includes current, pending and potential grants
- Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting
- Prepare grant progress reports for regional board meetings, monthly development report to National and as needed.
- Assist in budgeting process as it relates to grants based on history of funding and potential for new funding.
Major Gifts:
- Work with Executive Director and Development Director to develop strategies and fundraising vehicles to engage donors at the major gift level to meet goals outlined in annual budget and the Canine Companions for Independence Long Term Plan.
- Assist in the maintenance of a strong stewardship program for all donors.
Tours and Presentations
- Manage campus tour program – work with volunteers to schedule public tours on weekly set day and time. Act as tour docent in the event that a volunteer is not available.
- Manage public presentation program – serve as intake for presentation requests and work with volunteers to coordinate presentations in the community.
Special Events/Gala:
- Work with Development staff and volunteers to plan and coordinate special events/Tales & Tails Gala.
REQUIRED ABILITIES:
- Self-motivated, results oriented, and able to set priorities and work on numerous projects simultaneously
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills;
- Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals. Strong editing skills
- Computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office and familiarity with databases
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Able to monitor and meet income goals
- Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies and informational sources.
- Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.
- Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: 1-2 years grant writing experience; Previous experience with nonprofit fundraising
REQUIRED EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
REQUIRED LICENSES: None.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work indoors and outdoors performing development and administrative duties. Weekend and some evening work required.
