PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The caretaker will live on site in the dormitory facility on campus and will be available to guests for support and as a resource. The caretaker will provide housekeeping duties and light building maintenance tasks for the dormitory, including janitorial services and perform regular security checks for the campus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Training (Minimum 4 times per year for 2-week periods): Schedule dates of stay for guests. Create nametags, provide keys, and provide dormitory instructions as needed to support guest arrival. Greet and welcome incoming students and related guests to the campus and assist in check-in and checkout. Collect deposit checks and emergency card information. Present dormitory orientation and answer questions, give campus tours and hospitality training, which include dorm rules and procedures, equipment use, cleaning supplies location, contact information and emergency procedures. Provide on-call support and basic first aid to guests when necessary. Report any guest complaints, comments or suggestions to appropriate campus staff. Be available to students and guests for lunchtime check-ins and be within 20 minutes drive time at all times to assist for building and medical emergencies. Respect the privacy of guests while monitoring safety and housekeeping issues. Report significant issues or failure to follow established dorm rules and procedures to your supervisor. Provide support for all guests outside normal business hours (8am-6pm) that include basic first aid, emergency procedures and other tasks as needed.
- Graduate/Follow-Up Training (Monthly): Same duties as listed above for team trainings. Graduate follow-up trainings are usually scheduled to include weekends.
- Other Dormitory Guests: Provide support to dormitory guests during events such as board meetings, special events, conferences, fundraisers, etc. as needed.
- Administrative: Maintain dormitory information including dorm brochures, equipment signs, guest orientation information, cleaning schedule and campus event schedules.
- Housekeeping: Prepare beds and linens for dorm guests. Transport blankets, bedspreads and linens to and from laundry, as needed after guest use. Wash Laundry. Perform general cleaning duties that include maintaining all commonly used areas; dusting, mopping floors, cleaning kitchen area and refrigerator, washing dishes and linens as needed, monitoring library, laundry room, public restrooms and exterior entries, garbage collection and dorm room trash removal. Order, maintain and purchase Team Training and dormitory supplies including foodstuffs, equipment, cleaning supplies and dry goods.
- Dormitory Maintenance: Monitor and provide basic perimeter cleaning and general repair and maintenance to dormitory facilities, including laundry equipment, basic plumbing, replacing light bulbs, minor building repairs, and other general building and landscaping repairs and/or maintenance. Coordinate building and equipment repairs and services to minimize disruptions to guests.
- Security: Perform security checks of buildings and adjacent parking lots. Ensure all building exterior doors and windows are secured at the end of the day. Check and close main gate and service entry as needed. Set campus alarms when appropriate. Call police services if necessary. Keep a daily security log of unsecured doors and report security issues to supervisor.
- Office: General front office support as directed. Duties may include answering phones, directing guests and visitors, providing campus tours, etc.
- Other duties as assigned from time to time by supervisor or department.
REQUIRED ABILITIES:
- Ability to work with people with disabilities and dogs; able to maintain good boundaries with residents/guests.
- Ability to perform several tasks concurrently, time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work well with staff and volunteers; able to train volunteers to assist with general building, maintenance and landscaping..
- Ability to communicate, train and maintain confidential information.
- Ability to perform & problem solve basic housekeeping and general maintenance duties; able to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to use computer and Microsoft applications and email.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Certifiable in basic first aid skills and CPR.
REQUIRED EDUCATION: High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
REQUIRED LICENSES: New York Driver’s License.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee is required to live in the campus dormitory as a condition of employment in order to perform security functions, respond to guest needs and handle emergencies outside of normal business hours. Work on weekends and holidays required. Employee will normally be scheduled to work 40 hours per week during normal business hours (8am - 5pm). An average of 8 hours/week after hours and overtime can be expected. Security duties will be performed nightly any time after 6:30 pm. In addition, employee is expected to be available to respond to emergencies and requests from student and dormitory guests outside normal business hours. Employee will be compensated for time actually worked outside the employee's regularly scheduled hours. Employee will not be paid "on-call" time.
SAFETY HAZARDS: Subject to hazards that can be caused by working with animals, common household cleaning agents (laundry detergent, bleach and cleansers) and maintenance equipment. Activities include repeated bending, stooping, and kneeling and some lifting.
