PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
This position works closely with Regional Development staff, the National Director of Marketing and with the agency’s stakeholders to generate public awareness and support for the agency through media and public relations, advertising, promotions and cause marketing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Media Relations/Media Campaign Support:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with regional media sources.
  • Develop an annual regional media plan including electronic and print targets.
  • Write and distribute news releases, notices and public service announcements for regional departments, programs and initiatives.
  • Write and distribute articles of interest on personnel, volunteers, graduates and canines to regional media sources.
  • Provide public relations support to chapters as needed.
  • Act as spokesperson for the agency, articulate on the rights of the disabled.


Public Relations Management:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key regional public relations contacts.
  • Provide counsel to regional center staff and board members when necessary on public relations and/or media issues.
  • Develop an annual regional public relations plan.
  • Work with regional staff to coordinate participation of stakeholders in public relations activities.
  • Develop and share media files, records, lists and databases with regional center staff.
  • Work with program staff to create graduation presentations, slide shows and/or videos.
  • Compose, edit and distribute community, regional and local newsletters. Contribute regional articles for inclusion in National newsletters. Prepare other written assignments pertaining to the development department as needed.
  • Update and maintain the NER website


Public Awareness:

  • Work with volunteers in coordinating demonstrations and/or presentations to local groups.
  • Coordinate regional presence at area fairs and expos.


Advertising/Promotions:

  • Provide publicity support for regional special events, volunteer recruitment and programs.
  • Support the work for any regional items bearing the CCI logo.
  • Coordinate regional participation in giving campaigns; arrange for regional advertising and serve as liaison to marketing agencies that run campaigns.
  • Conceptualize and create regional solicitation pieces and graduation invitations.


Cause-Related Marketing:

  • Incorporate regional cause-marketing goals into annual plans.
  • Promote regional cause related marketing opportunities and work with the National development staff in their solicitation and development.


Other duties as assigned by the department or supervisor.

REQUIRED ABILITIES:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required, including public contacts and presentations.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize tasks and meet goals. Problem solving and attention to detail.
  • Ability to organize and maintain detailed records; complete necessary paperwork and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to negotiate and resolve intra-agency issues.
  • Excellent social and business skills in day-to-day interactions with all agency constituents.


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Knowledge of media in region’s major markets, especially Long Island and New York. Previous public relations and/or journalism experience and public speaking experience required. Experience with various Microsoft programs and web design/maintenance preferred. Video and photography experience helpful.

REQUIRED EDUCATION: College graduate or equivalent.

REQUIRED LICENSES: Valid NYS Drivers License

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work indoors and outdoors performing development management, fundraising events and administrative duties. Weekend work and travel required.
