Primary purpose of the job: The Development Director works with the Regional Director and oversees the identification, solicitation and development of community, local and regional funding sources. The position also develops fund-raising events and related projects, oversees the volunteer program and chapter activities and completes grant research and proposals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Manage the regional fundraising development program; raise annual income budget through individual solicitation, grant writing, events, clubs, etc. and coordinates regional staff fund raising efforts. Track and report on development funds demographically.
- Develop and expand the regions fund development program:
- In conjunction with the Regional Director and National development program, develop and maintain funding methodologies and concepts.

- Implement approved fund development programs
- Maintain statistical and research data and for all funding sources.
- Develop annual regional income and expense budget for development projects and activities. Develop resources to meet the anticipated income need of the regional budget and manage regional development expenses. Analyze and report on variances between actual and budgeted income and expense amounts.
- Supervise planning, coordination and organizing of established local and regional fund raising events. Develop and implement new fundraising events to the region.
- Review and ensure adequate insurance coverage for all CCI fundraising and development events.
- Oversee and manage promotion all community, local and regional relations. Oversee preparation and dissemination of press releases, public service announcements, and articles of interest and graduates’ stories to their local communities.
- Oversee the composition, editing and distribution of community, local, regional and center newsletters. Contribute regional articles and subjects of interest for inclusion in National newsletters. Oversee regional volunteer and puppy raiser and graduate newsletters.
- Oversee public relations agendas and activities; ensure graduates are instructed in public relations activities and media contact protocol. Oversee graduation activities and related media contacts. Oversee graduate photography for regional public relations and marketing efforts.
- Identify community, local and regional grant sources. Develop and write timely grants to coincide with funding source guidelines and deadlines. Research funding foundations, organization and corporations. Follow-up declined grants for input and future success.
- Oversee and perform public presentations for CCI events and demonstrations; maintain records of demonstrations, ensure demo materials are distributed, and follow-up on demonstrations to encourage contributions and support.
- Maintain regular cordial correspondence and networking with community, local and regional donors. Establish and maintain correspondence records. Update regional development acknowledgements and thank you cards. Oversee regional development correspondence to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Recruit, hire, train and evaluate regional development staff.
- Work closely with the National Director of Development and report regional development projects, newsletters, funding and related items. Provide monthly reports on: fund raising activities, major gifts, grants and special events, public relations, chapter activity, priority contracts and other funding efforts.

Required Abilities:
- Ability to perform several tasks concurrently, time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage, network, train and motivate staff, volunteers and clientele.
- Ability to organize and maintain detailed records; complete necessary paperwork and meet deadlines.
- Ability to perform public presentations; excellent oral and written communication skills.
Required Experience: Two – Five years of development and fundraising experience with a successful track record. Computer, research and analysis and public speaking experience preferred.
Required Education: College graduate or equivalent.
Required Licenses: Valid New York State Drivers License
Working Conditions: Work indoors and outdoors performing development management, training and administrative duties. Weekend work and travel required.
Safety Hazards: General office working conditions. Subject to hazards that can be caused by working with animals.
