Art of Independence

Art of Independence

On Saturday, May 22 from NOON to 4PM, Canine Companions for Independence and the Downtown Disney District in Anaheim will host the ART OF INDEPENDENCE with Tommy Hollenstein.

Tommy HollensteinTommy is an artist and Canine Companions graduate. Using the wheels of his chair as his paint brush, Tommy's style has been compared to Jackson Pollock. In his work, layers of vibrant colors create the perception of fluid motion in static space. Sometimes, his service dog contributes her paw prints to Tommy's paintings!

At the ART OF INDEPENDENCE, Tommy will give an interactive demonstration of his style of painting. “Tommy is an inspiration,” explains Linda Valliant, the Executive Director of Canine Companions’ Southwest Region Center. “We wanted to provide the children in our program, who are facing physical challenges of their own, the opportunity to meet and learn from such an incredible role model. Tommy embodies the notion that anything is possible.”

Downtown Disney DistrictThe ART OF INDEPENDENCE will be held in the center of the Downtown Disney District in front of ESPN Zone. The event will present a unique opportunity for the public to learn about Canine Companions, our mission and our awe-inspiring graduates.
