The Northeast Regional Center of Canine Companions for Independence
provides highly trained assistance dogs to children and adults with disabilities in
13 states including New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland,
Washington DC, Virginia, West Virginia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island,Vermont,
New Hampshire and Maine.
Since opening in 1989, the region has placed 559 Assistance Dogs and more than
294 of these teams are still active. In July of 2008, the Northeast Region moved into
its new 11-acre, 39,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility, The Miller Family Campus.
The campus' Canine Care Center features 35 kennels, exercise yards, a wellness
clinic and grooming facility, along with separate kennels and play yards for puppies.
The Hagedorn Team Training Residence Hall has 11 spacious fully handicapped
accessible dorm rooms for training participants and their families. Bogie's Bistro provides
a community space with an accessible kitchen, dining room and lounge. There are
5 training rooms that are utilized for team training, advanced training, puppy classes, as
well as community meetings. Currently, the region has more than 290 volunteers, 168
puppy raisers and 7 active chapters throughout the region ensuring our organization
continues to provide "exceptional dogs for exceptional people."
The Northeast Region is proud of its facility and offers scheduled tours. We also
