Lions Project for Canine Companions for Independence

Lions Club participation dates back to CCI’s very beginnings in the mid-1970s. Lions and Lioness's in Northern California were the first volunteers recruited by CCI to serve as puppy raisers and breeder caretakers. Interest grew and the Lions Project was formed in 1983 to coordinate and support efforts of Lions, Lioness and Leo Clubs across the United States through a Club Membership and volunteer program.

LPCCI membership provides a wide range of awards that honor club members while making donations. For more information, please contact:

General Federation of Women's Clubs

Canine Companions for Independence is proud of its long association with the General Federation for Women’s Clubs, which has generously supported CCI for many years through its Home Life Department. Each year, CCI attends the GFWC International Convention.

The GFWC includes more than 6,500 clubs in the United States and more than 20 countries. Its members support the arts, preserve natural resources, promote education, encourage healthy lifestyles, stress civic involvement, and work toward world peace and understanding.

Canine Companions attended the 118th Annual International Convention of the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) in Cleveland, OH. The event took place June 13-15, with Canine Companions volunteers spreading the word to Club members and thanking them for their support.

Six awards were handed out to deserving Clubs for their fundraising on behalf of Canine Companions. Congratulations to the Woman's Club of Carlsbad, CA; Butler Woman's Club of Butler, PA; Woman's Club of Glyndon of Glyndon, MD; Brentwood Woman's Club of Brentwood, TN; Delmar Progress Club of Slingerlands, NY; and GFWC Billings Junior Woman's Club of Billings, MT.
