Congrats Grads

Anna just graduated from high school and is off to Johns Hopkins University. Today Anna and her parents feel completely confident about this life step for Anna, but there was a time when Anna’s parents were quite concerned about her living alone so far away from home.

Anna was born profoundly deaf. She often misses sounds like phones, door knocks, and traffic. When she’s asleep or not wearing her hearing aids, she’s completely deaf.

Anna and her parents knew a hearing dog would increase Anna’s independence. After researching a number of different organizations, they applied to Canine Companions.

“Before Yashira, I was always afraid of missing out on the important things,” Anna shares. “Now, my family can feel comfortable sending me off to college in the fall, where Yashira will help me stay safe and make new friends!”

Working Together

For years, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) and Canine Companions have worked together to change the lives of people with disabilities.

We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from GFWC clubs across the country…from California to Florida.

We’re excited to get to know more GFWC club members at the GFWC convention in Orlando Florida June 30 through July 2. Learn more about GFWC and Canine Companions

Sharing Knowledge

Recently, two Canine Companions instructors joined Brian Hare, director of Duke University Canine Cognition Center, in a presentation to Duke alumni in San Francisco, CA. Canine Companions and Duke University have an ongoing partnership designed to better understand dog behavior.

Now Service Dog Kaluha, participated in the presentation. Her restraint and obvious cuteness showed the crowd how exceptional our dogs are! Learn more about our dogs!

HS IRA Rollover Extended

Since the news has spread about the extension of the charitable IRA rollover, many supporters of Canine Companions have used this opportunity to make a gift in 2013. If you are taking mandatory distributions from your IRA, ask your IRA plan administrator to facilitate a distribution directly to Canine Companions.

For more information on this and other planned gifts, contact Dave Bonfilio, national planned giving officer at pginfo@cci.org or visit cci.org/plannedgiving.
