|December 2, 2010 | Stars Come Out for Assistance Dogs for Children|
Canine Companions for Independence and Margaret O’Brien are partnering to launch the Margaret O’Brien Children’s Initiative to raise funds to benefit physically challenged children in need of a Canine Companions assistance dog—of which there are currently 160 on the wait list. To train one dog, it costs approximately $50,000, and Canine Companions never charges for a dog, but depends upon the kindness and generosity of others to continue to fulfill their mission of placing exceptional dogs with exceptional people.
An elegant event took place in New York City at the Forbes Gallery on December 9th to kick off the initiative. Sponsors including Forbes Gallery, Tri-State Lincoln Mercury and the Chatwal Hotel.
Academy Award-winning actress Margaret O'Brien joined Skilled Companion Graduate Johanna and assistance dog Taffy at the event.
Also attending were Academy Award winning actress, Celeste Holm; Film and television star, and president of the Southern California Motion Picture Council, Randal Malone; Stage and screen star, Shanon Bolin; and Tony Award winning actress, Shirley Knight.
