Northeast Training Center Weather Closure

Northeast Training Center Weather Closure

Monday, November 5th: Power returned at the facility around 12:40pm while students were having lunch. There was much rejoicing! Pending the Nor’easter storm that is approaching Wednesday into Thursday, there is potential for another power outage. After lengthy discussions, this is how we will handle matriculation and graduation:
- Express turn-in will take place at the Miller Family Campus as originally scheduled, however, access to the building will be limited to the play yard, training room and restrooms.
- We are in the process of trying to arrange the Graduation brunch with the Marriott for the students and puppy raisers of dogs graduating. More details to follow later this week.

There is currently a gas shortage on Long Island which is anticipated to last several more days but given the fact that there is another storm approaching it may be longer. Hotels continue to be booked because of families that have been misplaced from their homes due to the hurricane. If you have already made reservations, please check with your hotel. Travel on/off of Long Island is difficult due to continued tunnel closures.

If you need to contact us, please call Headquarters in Santa Rosa at 1-866-224-3647, or via e-mail at They will answer your questions, or get your message to us.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Friday, November 2nd: As we look towards Graduation next week on Friday, November 9th, we need to alert you to the following:

Currently, access on/off Long Island is limited and there are HOV restrictions. Also, the area is experiencing a gas shortage and hotels are completely booked.

We are monitoring the situation closely and will be providing another update on Monday. Please continue to check the website and social media for updates. Hopefully, these situations will alleviate themselves by next week.

Thursday update: Pre-matches happened today at Team Training. Intermittent electricity with back-up generators...a bit chilly.

Wednesday update: Still no electricity, however training continued. Our longstanding, dedicated volunteers Neil and Diane Ferguson prepared an awesome Halloween lunch, including eyeballs (deviled eggs) and dirt (chocolate pudding and cake w/crushed Oreos) for dessert! Trick or Treating was scheduled in the Dorms after Team Training today. We found an outlet hidden away and hooked up the generator to connect the TV. We'll watch a Halloween movie tonight (maybe It's a Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown) with popcorn.

Tuesday evening update: We came through the storm and rallied today. After staff took care of business at home, they came to the Miller Family Campus and Team Training continued! Students and dogs in training are happy! Still no electricity, but that hasn't dampened spirits! CCI staff rock!

Tuesday morning update: The Center lost electricity last night, but all students and dogs are well! Could be a while without power -- 90% of Long Island is without electricity. We'll determine when to pick up Team Training once staff logistics are finalized. Communications are difficult and sporadic at best, so please contact CCI HQ if needed.

Team Training update:  All students arrived safely over the weekend.  Team Training did start Monday, but will be suspended at 2:00pm this afternoon and through tomorrow (Tuesday).  We hope to be able to resume class by Wednesday.  We will be providing regular updates on Team Training and Graduation through our website and social media. Kennel personnel will be on site through the building closures to care for the dogs.

Due to anticipated power outages and phone loss during and after Hurricane Sandy, we ask that you contact our Headquarters in Santa Rosa at 1-866-224-3647, or via e-mail at if you need immediate assistance.
