Executive Director Named at Southeast RegionOrlando, FL

The Southeast Region of Canine Companions for Independence (Canine Companions) is pleased to announce that Cathy Gooden has been appointed its executive director. Gooden will be responsible for managing donors, volunteers, and staff to ensure long term stability and financial growth of the region. Gooden has more than two decades of non-profit executive leadership experience, and most recently she was a life and leadership coach and provided consulting services to help individuals and corporations achieve their goals.
She also served as president of Shepherd’s Hope, an Orlando based voluntary health organization, and held executive positions with the Arthritis Foundation and the American Diabetes Association. She has proven success in fundraising, leading staff and board development efforts and in executing major and planned giving activities.
A graduate of the University of Delaware, Cathy has an extensive background in strategic planning, staff and volunteer development, fundraising and developing and sustaining comprehensive community partnerships. Cathy is a graduate of Leadership Orlando and the Bank of America Neighborhood Excellence Leadership Program.
“I am thrilled to re-join the staff of the Southeast Region of Canine Companions. The region has experienced a tremendous amount of growth over the past few years and I am very excited for the opportunity to play a role in the future of the organization,” said Gooden.
Canine Companions assistance dogs are provided free of charge, though costs exceed $50,000 to breed, raise, train, and provide ongoing support. Canine Companions relies on charitable contributions, grants, special event and corporate support to fund the substantial costs involved with this process.
