Meet Our Leadership
Dana Simonds, President
Dana started volunteering for Canine Companions in 2005 when she and her family received their first breeder Lista. From Lista’s first litter, Dana and her daughter Michelle puppy raised their first puppy Zadie, and from the third litter Alondra. Alondra became Dana’s second breeder. Dana has co-raised several other puppies, and assisted in whelping litters with new breeder caretakers. Over the past ten years, Dana has made numerous presentations to service groups, schools and after school clubs, as well as assisted in the events put on by Canine Companions. Dana and her family love being a part of Canine Companions. Dana truly believes in the important mission to improve the lives and freedom of people with disabilities by giving them highly skilled assistance dogs, and has she has made many great friends who share the same values and enjoyment of volunteering.
Maureen Butler, Vice President
Maureen started volunteering for Canine Companions in 2004 and soon received her first breeder Imman. Eighteen months later, she was asked to foster another breeder Sophie III. After a month, her family realized that Sophie needed to become an official part of their family. While having two active breeders, Maureen still found time to foster six additional litters. She has also spent time as a kennel volunteer, speaking to various organizations, making many Team Training lunches and took the role of Chairperson for Celebrity Chef/ Bone Appetite. In 2007, Maureen received a Volunteer of the Year Award from the State of California for her work with Canine Companions. Being part of Canine Companions showed Maureen her passion for helping others and raising awareness for assistance dogs.
