Meet Our East Bay Miracle Dogs
Ever wonder what the life of a service dog or a rookie (future assistance dog) is like? Follow one of our teams, get to know them up close and personal
It takes $50,000 to take one of our dogs from birth to retirement. They are all raised by volunteer puppy raisers, and we give them to disabled people FREE of charge! We count on people like you with big hearts to make that happen. Click one of the links below to meet our awesome East Bay Miracles Canine Companions for Independence dogs, and follow the dogs of your choice. Enjoy getting to know them, meet them in person if you live nearby, and help them become Top Dog of the Year!
Graduate Service Dogs
Anamarie was born on 12/13/2013. She was raised as a puppy by Kim Templeman who lives near Portland, Oregon.
Anamarie is a Skilled Companion for his recipient, Tyler Wilson. Anamarie and Tyler graduated from CCI's Team Training in May 2016 and have become best friends. Anamarie helps Tyler, who is 10 years old and has Angelman Syndrome, with tasks around the house and provides a constant source of love and friendship.
Anamarie loves to go on long walks, play with her toys, and accompany Tyler on his many and trips around Dublin. We love to meet others and hope to see you soon.
My name is Cassius. I am a working Canine Companions Service Dog for Natalie, and we live in the East Bay. I am really a working working dog as my person works at a public library and I help her out. I love people and attention and a quiet place to nap, so it works out very well! (Well, except when I sleep-bark under the reference desk and Natalie has to wake me up!)
When we are not at work, Natalie and I enjoy going to the theatre in San Francisco, going on long walks on the nearby trails, travelling (I just went to Manhattan and was such a good boy!) and spending quality time with my squeaky stuffed toys.
You can follow me on Facebook at www.facebook.com/servicedogCASSIUS on Twitter at @CassiusCCIDog, or on my person's Instagram at @nataliema.
Hi, my name is Digby!
I was born July 2014 in Sacramento. I grew up in San Francisco with my puppy raiser Dave, his Change of Career dog Jacee, and his cats Ali and Bernie. I love people, cats and dogs of all colors, ages, shapes and sizes. I am very calm and obedient until given the OK to play, at which point I become a real party animal!
I was the 4th puppy being raised by Dave for Canine Companions. I was with Dave until February 2016, when I started my professional training in Santa Rosa.
In August 2016, I graduated with my new forever person Maria. I love to help her pick up things off the floor. Maria is very active, and I love doing outdoor activities with her.
Hi! My name is Freckle and I proudly graduated as a Service Dog with my human, Cynthia, on February 14th, 2014. We live in Emeryville, California. Cynthia is in a wheelchair and I help with many tasks throughout the day. All day long I am picking up things for her, opening and closing doors, pulling her in her wheelchair and other tasks. I also remind her to take breaks during the day so we can go outside, get fresh air and smell the flowers -there are so many smells! Since I've been with Cynthia I have also learned how to ride the lift on the bus and get the phone for her in case of an emergency! She is also teaching me to clean up my toys after I scatter them around the apartment-not my favorite lesson!
We like to explore new trails, go handcycling and every now and then I get to go swimming-my favorite way to release! Cynthia is always telling me how much she loves me and I give her lots of licks in return.
Hi, my name is Henrietta II although everyone calls me Henri (which can lead to a lot of confusion and so I usually wear a pink collar or flower). I was born May 21, 2013, and was puppy raised in Seattle, Washington. I think that is why I love to walk and play in the rain so much!
I live in Walnut Creek, California with my partner Dianne and family. I am very focused and calm when I am working, but I also love to run around and play with other dogs. I do many tasks throughout the day including picking up things, opening doors and turning on the lights. I can even go get the phone if my partner needs me to.
My family loves to travel; I have been to Disneyland, Las Vegas, Big Sur and even through the Panama Canal on a cruise. My future travels include Alaska, Hawaii and London.
My name is Winnie V. I’m called Winnie. I am a working Canine Companions Service Dog for Anna, and I live in the East Bay with my mom (Anna), dad (Wallter) and my really good little buddy named Chibi. (Pet dog- shiba inu) Because I am a Certified Service Dog through Canine Companions for Independence, I’m allowed to go everywhere my mom and Dad go (movie theaters, restaurants, stores).
One of our first long travel trips was to visit the Magic Kingdom in LA where I personally met Winnie the Pooh and lots of the other Disney characters (Mickey and Minnie have enormous heads but I wasn’t scared). My favorite ride is Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion is second.
At home I help my mom out a lot by retrieving dropped items (remote controls, pens, portable telephone) closing drawers and opening doors. I can turn on lights and open the refrigerator. I am currently learning to put the toys back in the toy basket. My brother always takes them out but doesn’t know to put them back. I love people (especially my dad and my brother), going for long walks and helping my mom. My smart classmate Cassius and I both graduated Feb. 15, 2013 and it’s always good to see him and share our latest stories.
Hi, my name is Ida III.
I was born on August 6, 2014 to my breeder Mom Silk II and Dad GDA Archer. I grew up in Hayward, CA with my puppy raiser Michelle and her husband Bruce.
In March 2016, I started professional training. In May 2016, I was designated as one of the "best of the best", and became a Canine Companions breeder. I now live my Breeder-Caretaker Catie. I am due to have my first litter of Canine Companions puppies on January 21.
Hi, my name is Minerva. I am a 4 year old yellow Labrador Retriever. I have had 3 litters of puppies for Canine Companions for Independence. In fact, you will find my offspring in the East Bay! I am very calm and mild mannered. When I am not pregnant or caring for puppies, I love to chase balls at the park or on the beach.
Please follow me on Facebook: Minerva, Canine Companions for Independence Breeder, and Minerva and Lincecum T Litter.
Hi, my name is Miley II. I’m a full Golden Retriever and breeder for Canine Companions for Independence (CCI).
My story begins on my birthday, March 18, 2014, when I began my journey with CCI. I knew all along that I would be a breeder for CCI due to my unique lineage. My dad, MACH3 Rivercity Wakemup Excellent Adventure, is a national agility champion and everyone says I take after him with my energy and smooth moves. My mom, Patina II, is one of the best moms in the world. I have a sister and brother (Margie and Moats), along with two half-sisters (Sophie and Salinas), who are also breedersfor CCI. Yes … we are one big Golden family!
My puppy raisers and breeder caretakers are Pat Gerhards and Tina Mancebo of Pleasanton. I have a “sister,” Genoa III, who is a comfort/therapy dog for Valley Humane Society in Pleasanton. We are quite a pair and are known as The Gorgeous Golden Girls.
My first litter, all full Golden Retriever’s, was born on April 22, 2016 – the Super Sweet “S” Litter – Sunshine II, Siena II, Sherwood II, SolomanIII, Sampson II, Sheldon III, Stella V, Sumner, and Siobhan. The puppies sire is Oz III. My puppies are being raised by volunteers all over then nation with the hope they will become assistance dogs for people with disabilities. My second litter was born on January 22, 2017.
My name is Patina II. I live in Danville, CA with mom, Sharon, dad, Bill, a CRAZY Dalmatian, Daisy, and a change of career, therapy dog, Shug. My mom and Dad call me Patina Rose because I have a beautiful rosy brown coat. I was born in 2009. I am a retired breeder and have 6 children and one granddaughter who were also chosen as breeders. Not to brag, but if you are chosen as a breeder that means you are the best of the best. My mom and dad think that’s true, and they say I made awesome babies and am a wonderful, caring grandmother who LOVES taking care of her grand-pups now.
I had five litters, 32 puppies. Puppies in bold are breeders and those in italics graduated. Amazingly, my entire F litter graduated! The W’s are still in advanced training and doing well.
- S litter, 6-26-12, Sire Brinkley: Seth III, Salinas III, Starling, Sophie V, Simon VI, Sashi III, Sullivan III, Solomon II
- H litter, 3-18-13, Sire Camden II: Harley V, Hea II, Harold IV, Hoyt II, Hershey IV, Haliwell
- M litter, 3-18-14, Sire Bill: Margie III, Moats, Miley II, Mo II, Major IV, Miranda II
- F litter, 12-10-14, Sire Armani: Frieda III, Flower IV, Friday IV, Faye IV, Freemon, Fynn
- W litter, 8-10-15, Sires: Alton, Isaac IV, Ivan IV: Wilder II, Whitley II, Woodruff, Whisper III, West III, Wender
Before my mom retired as a teacher, I went to school with her every day and worked as a therapy dog. My mom says I have magical powers. I loved helping the kids when they were feeling sad or angry. Now we sometimes go to the library and let kids read to me. The reading is OK, but all the petting is my favorite thing.
If you need a dog to pet, I’d be most happy to lend you a helping paw. If you’d like to follow me on Facebook go to https://www.facebook.com/PatinaRoseBuddies.
Sending love your way, Patina Rose
Hi, my name is Charm! I was born on April 10, 2016, at Canine Companions for Independence's Canine Early Development Center in Santa Rosa.
I have two co-Breeder-Caretakers. One works at the CEDC (which is why I was born there), and the other is my Mom Kalita's puppy raiser. My dad is Tremayne.
I live in San Francisco, with my dad Dave, his change-of-career dog Jacee (who happens to be my Aunt!), and his two cats. I am the 5th puppy that Dave has raised.
My favorite activities are going for walks in San Francisco, and meeting and playing with other dogs.
I will be with Dave until November, 2017, when I start my professional training.
My name's Feather and I was born December 9, 2015. My puppy raisers are Christine Hollender and Charlie Dunn and we all live in foggy San Francisco.
I accompany Christine to work every day and get to meet lots of amazing people. Living in the city as we do, I get to experience streetcars, buses, trains and even Uber rides as well as lots of fun walks to the beach.
Let's go romp sometime!
Hi, I'm Janice V. I was born July 22, 2016. I am a Labrador Golden Retriever cross. I live in Livermore with my volunteer puppy raiser family, Christine and Steve and Alex. I also live with my little big stepbrother Luke who is a 7-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel from Cavalier Rescue USA. Luke and I used to be the same size, but that didn't last long, as my foster mom says I'm growing bigger every day! I love playing with Luke, but he gets cranky with me sometimes!I like finding things in the yard that I can run with and toss in the air -- I'm still learning the "drop" command. I love everybody, and when I'm out and about I think everyone needs to say hello to me. I'm quite food motivated and enjoy learning new commands when kibble is involved! My foster mom says one of her favorite things about me is the cute sounds I make when I yawn -- she's silly.
Hi, my name is Reeter, but I also respond to Reet, Sweet Reet, and Goofball. I was named in honor of Rita Gombar, a CCI puppy raiser in Flagler Beach, Florida, and my puppy raiser’s cousin.
I was born on October 9, 2015 in Santa Rosa (mom Zaire, dad DaVinci) and spent my first 8 weeks with my breeder caretaker, Cynthia, my siblings, my mom Zaire, and my Auntie Helaine. I currently live in Oakland with my puppy raiser, Jen Bloom, and my sister Engrid, a very tolerant and patient Change of Career dog. When I am working, I am very focused, obedient, and calm. I typically fall asleep on BART during our commute. I’ve been told that I am confident and curious and really eager to experience new environments. I am going on my first plane ride next week! When the vest comes off, it’s all about PLAY. I love all people, animals, and toys. I love running, jumping, and leaping long distances in the back yard. When I am not seeking affection from humans, particularly a belly rub, I can be found sleeping on Engrid.
I returned to Santa Rosa to begin my Professional Training on May 5, 2017.
