|IMAGINE... Not being able to reach a light switch or elevator button. Not being able to open the door or pick up your dropped keys. Not being able to hear the smoke alarm. Imagine your child not being able to relate to the world. Now, Imagine Independence. Independence made possible by a highly trained assistance dog that responds to the needs of adults and children with disabilities provided free of charge by Canine Companions for Independence (CCI).|
Canine Companions relies solely on donations and volunteers to provide these canine helpers free of charge. Canine Companions estimates it costs $50,000 to fund a dog’s breeding, training and the ongoing follow-up services after the dog is placed. Will you please help us place more dogs like these by sponsoring the Imagine Independence event? Thank you so much to last year’s sponsors!
On April 18, 2013, the Utah Wasatch Champions Chapter of Canine Companions will host our second annual Imagine Independence fundraising event. The event will feature guest author Marianne McKiernan, and will include a dinner and silent auction for up to 350 guests at the Union Station Browning Theater in Ogden. Marianne is the author of Let the Dogs Speak! and owner of Telling Tales Animal Communication. Attendees may mingle with local graduate teams to learn firsthand how the Canine Companion assistance dogs have made their lives more independent. Admission is just $50 and dress is casual. (Click here to download a flyer.)
The success of this event depends on support from people like you. Your sponsorship will enable Canine Companions to provide assistance dogs to adults and children with a wide range of disabilities, including wounded war veterans. Canine Companions even provides facility dogs to work alongside healthcare or special education providers. As always, there is no charge to the recipients of these wonderful dogs. In 2011, Canine Companions graduated a record 262 teams, followed by another 255 in 2012. And in Utah the number of graduate teams has grown from 18 to 22 in the last year.
